About Sumner Crossfit

Sumner CrossFit has evolved since our opening in 2005 from a personal training studio, to a full on CrossFit box. Along the way we have created programs and added classes to create a facility that has something for everyone. We have tapped into our 20+ years of experience in the fitness and sport industry to create programs, classes, and workshops that help people get healthy. That is the bottom line. We are not here to judge you, compete with you, or convert you to a cult; we are here to provide a sound exercise and nutrition programs that will give you the tools to become healthy and strong. The experience and education of our trainers is immeasurable, and is not limited to CrossFit, but rather is a combination of years of involvement in the sport and fitness industry, as athletes, coaches, trainers, instructors, mentors, and students. We have a broad spectrum of knowledge and experience, allowing us the ability to relate to any new member, from the professional athlete to the sedentary, we can meet you where you are, and take you to the next level.

Sumner CrossFit is owned and run by Katie and Walt Henry, who have committed themselves to the community through their work at SCF and in hosting a variety of events, both locally and nationally. Neither has taken a paycheck from their ownership, as they each have careers outside of SCF which allows them to keep the costs as low as possible for the members, and therefore offer their services to more people which is the ultimate goal. Get. People. Healthy.

Walt is a Fire Fighter with the Kent Fire Authority and Katie is a Health and Leadership Teacher and Head Swim Coach at Auburn High School. With 4 kids and their own athletic and recreational adventures outside of SCF, they are busy, but they continue to train at and own SCF because they absolutely LOVE it. The people at SCF have become like a family, dysfunctional at best, but some of the most amazing people you will ever meet or have the privilege of working out with!

John Weber

Certifications:

Whole 9 Foundations of Nutrition, 2011
Olympic Lifting, Thrush Sports Performance, 2010

CrossFit Nutrition, 2009
Bergner Olympic Lifting, 2009

ACE Personal Training, 1997

Outside the Box:

Don't be confused by John's athletic statute.  While he looks like the epitome of CrossFit strength, he has had to overcome physical obstacles that most could only imagine.  As a incredibly talented snow boarder in high school, John was well on his way to a career in the sport when a tragic accident left him with paralysis and 2 6 inch scars down his back where the metal plates were installed to hold him together.  Not letting a little loss of feeling slow him down.... John used fitness and nutrition as his tool for recovery.  Becoming certified as a personal trainer early in his career, he later found CrossFit and Paleo.  The combo has created a monster.  John is an inspiration to everyone at the gym, but it doesn't stop us from pushing him to the next level. When John's training, you don't get to complain about being sore.

Kaylor Hasbargen

Certifications:
CrossFit Level 1, 2009

Whole 9 Foundations of Nutrition, 2011
Olympic Lifting, Thrush Sports Performance, 2010

Outside the Box:

Kaylor is the poster-child of SCF (and HATES it!).  One of our 2011 Regional Games Qualifiers, Kaylor is a workhorse.  As a student at WSU he took to CrossFit after becoming injured during his Baseball career at Hawaii University.  When home from WSU he is one of our primary trainers, while away he keeps in touch through our FB page. He is also dating the owner's niece, and has been allowed to live, so obviously he's a pretty decent guy.

Heather Silberman

Certifications:

Whole 9 Foundations of Nutrition, 2011

CrossFit Level 1 attendee, 2010

NCSF Personal Training, 2009

First Aid/ CPR

Outside the Box:

Personal Trainer and mom of 2, she runs her own "Redemtion Bootcamp" at SCF on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.  She has coached softball and basketball (ages 5-18), ran a 1/2 marathon (rock-n-roll), and started with CrossFit during her journey of losing over 100 pounds.  She had a little fight with Fran last year and broke her back.... that was the last fight she will lose.  Heather doesn't mess around and won't let you either.  After a recent shoulder surgery, Heather could be seen doing one arm wall balls, thrusters and just about anything else she could modify in her recovery.

Heather specializes in personal training, so if you need one-on-one attention/motivation, she is your girl.  You can contact the front desk to set up training sessions with you throughout the week.

Dale Reichert

Certifications:

Whole 9 Foundations of Nutrition, 2011

CrossFit Level 1 attendee, 2010
Olympic Lifting, Thrush Sports Performance, 2010

Outside the Box:

YEAH BABY! Dale is the "Norm" of SCF.  When he walks in, you know he's here. He knows every member's name and stays long after his own workout is over to encourage everyone else.  He is a student of CrossFit and loves what is has done to completely change his life.  He will be a contender this year in the Masters division of the Games, and his entire SCF family will be encouraging him to get it DONE!

Loraine Taylor

Olympic Lifting, Thrush Sports Performance, 2010
CrossFit Level 1, 2009

Thrush Sports Performance Olympic Lifting Clinic – 2010

Outside the Box:

Loraine is the Paleo Boss! She was Paleo before being Paleo was cool. She was an avid runner for years, until she discovered CrossFit.  She started coming to classes with a friend 5 years ago, and it slowly took over her training. She is a natural when it comes to lifting and has an eye for coaching.  As a mother of two, she has slowly converted her whole family to CrossFit training and eating Paleo.  She's little, but she's feisty!

Lori Palomino

Certifications:

Catalyst Athletics Level 1 Olympic Weightlifting Seminar, 2012

USA Weightlifting Level 1 Sports Performance Coach, 2012
CrossFit Level 1, 2009

She has been teaching in Aerobics, Pilates and Yoga for 10 years and recently became both a Body Camp and CrossFit instructor.  She combines her extensive knowledge and experience in the sport and fitness industry, with her ability to motivate, to create workouts that take her classes to the brink of failure, but have them back for more the next day! She is a master at keeping people on track and won't allow you to quit.  If you don't show up, she knows where you live, and she will find you.

Brian Coble

Certifications:

CrossFit Football, 2010

CrossFit Level 1, 2009
Olympic Lifting, Thrush Sports Performance, 2010

Outside the Box:

Brian got his start in California as a CrossFit coach and found SCF when he moved to Washington.  He is a favorite coach for us and fills in when Walt is on shift at the station.  He opened up his own box in Graham and focusses primarily on working with high school athletes.  From his blog: "I Love working at my gym in Graham, WA. Coaching football and strength and conditioning at Graham-Kapowsin High School. Work concrete construction during the day. I can train anyone from any background but my main goal is to eventually train the best athletes in the world and coach football at the collegiate or even professional level. Love to go out and have fun with friends and just live life."  He is also dating an EWU Eagle, so Katie thinks he's a smart guy!

Outside the Box:
Kimberly specializes in Pilates and Kickboxing, and became a Personal Trainer 5 years ago.  Her classes are known for being intense.  Members often crawl out of her kickboxing class, so don't let her appearance deceive you, she's no princess!  One of our strongest competitors in the CrossFit Games Open Competition this year, Kimberly is strong and fast, and can throw weight around with the big boys, but they can't match her core strength if they tried.  She also teaches the 9:15 AM Body Camp where she can combine her love of nutrition with her personal training background.

After college she continued participating in a variety of classes and finally decided to get her certification when The Body Studio opened. She has since received her Personal Training Certification and taken on some of the Body Camp classes. She has two kids and lives minutes from the box, so she can be seen running through town, or running her Body Camps through town!

"Not only is this the most fun I've ever had working out, but also the most rewarding. For the first time in my life I FEEL STRONG, and watching so many others get strong over the years has been inspiring."
